The power is out and a Nor’easter is creating wind gusts upwards of 70mph in New England. The leaves are everywhere. I love the fall in New England and the colors this year have been spectacular. Hopefully the damage is limited and the power comes back on soon.
I took a great class at RISD (Rhode Island School of Design) from my favorite professor, John Tschirch, called Decorative Styles. One of the design motifs we studied was the acanthus leaf which adorned architectural exteriors, interior walls and furniture. In some Mediterranean countries, the acanthus leaf symbolizes renewal, healing, enduring life and immortality.
A group of us from the class took a trip to Florence to study design (and of course we ate great food and shopped, etc!-). It was fun to see the acanthus in so many places - so beautiful and felt like a treasure hunt.
One of my favorite pieces in the collection of acanthus jewelry is the Acanthus Leaf Engraved Cuff. I love how the detail comes out in these pieces and the substantial feel and weight of the cuff. I hope you love it, too!
